Hi dodo

I've not heard of weight loss with RA, more often the other way round as can't exercise properly.

Do you think it could be a mixture of stress and fighting the throat infections?

Sure you will get more replies soon, hope you get the infections under control and get the correct RA medication very soon.

I don't think it's normal but it is possible. I've had RA since Feb 2011 and have lost 4st.

I was told by my rheumy when I was first diagnosed that weight loss can be a symptom of R.A. I went from 9 stones to 7.5 stones in the first 18 months. I have very aggressive R.A and my weight didn't improve until my R.A was more stable on medication.

Hopefully your weight will pick up once your R.A is more controlled. In the meantime eat plenty of protein as R.A does cause muscle wastage.

Hope you can start some treatment soon.

best wishes
Rebecca

I've lost a lot of weight since getting RA. My rheumy nurse said this can happen to some people with RA. Others put on weight due to less exercise and sometimes due to steroids. I have little appetite these days and can't seem to manage more than a third of a normal size meal. I hope you can manage to stop the weight loss. When I can't face food or am too exhausted to cook I drink milk as at least it's nutritious without too much effort. hope this helps. Naomi, xxx
